discusion: aging of the s197 and its various components(first gen 05-09 gt)
ok heres a thread for discussion on the aging of the first generation s197(05-09) id like to cover the range of things from any problems we have encountered to engine mileage vs's performance and reliability.
fors starters my shelbys about to click over 22k miles and i have yet to encounter a single problem(that wasn't caused directly by me) though by any standard my car is a low mileage vehicle i'd like to get the input of people with cars with more mileage.
so far every thing has aged well, i have had any bearings fail havent had any parts go out and havent had to replace anything yet. the only signs of any age have been that the running pony emblem on the front of my car has a little paint peel going on. something i can rectify pretty easily.
so who wants to start?

mine has just rolled over 40,000 miles and ive encountered no serious problems either. my only gripe is this freakin dash squeak ive got, which i know is a common problem.

57,000 on my 2008 (no its not a typo, i think im beating everyone in mileage) and all ive had wrong is a power steering high pressure switch failure at 35K which ford fixed.

Mine is an 06 with 16k on the clock. i drive mine a little more than David Cox. Mo problems.
My only problem has been with people buying the Shelby GTs (AKA Baby GTs). I mean really.... most of the owners are named Jared...

I have over 50k and beat it like a rented mule and all I have to do is put on brake parts really often. Oh and I broke two sway bar radiator mounts from overloading the suspension in a turn and hitting a bump. I replaced those with billet so they should not be able to brake. Honestly I am overly impressed the the quality so far Ford rocks.

Over 70K here driven daily and put 40+K on it last year because of my job and the only thing I've had to replace were plugs and the battery. Still runs like a top. With the tighter tollerences on the modular engines I bet you'll see em run into the 200K area with little more than brakes and clutches. Normal wear items etc. I'd say count on plugs every 70K or so under normal driving, clutch every 120k normal driving brakes every 65K normal driving of course oil and fluids etc. Honestly this new S197 is leapyears beyond previous years in terms of mainenance issues.

we need to have a tech day so you can help me with the plugs man, lol. they recommend that the plugs be changed at 40k miles now. im scared to touch them with all the horror stories ive heard. ive even read up on how to properly remove the plugs (1/4 turn, spray carb cleaner, let sit, etc.) and im still freaked out. what brand did you go with and how did the car act when you replaced them?

I have an 06 with 25,000 miles and have had no serious Ford quality issues. I do have a couple of things that annoy me like the squeaky dash and the tractor like noise of the power steering but the car has been a blast. The first car I have owned in a long time that once "done" I didn't sell off to get something else.

I've just had water leak issue's, which ford fixed
And on the automatic window open and closer, when i try to automatically close the passenger side window with the drivers side switch....it will go up like a 1/4 of the way and roll back down...and it doesnt do it all the time

i have that same problem on the drivers side. i dont know if its really a problem or if its just operator error. the water leak issues? where was your water leak at? drain holes by the windows get clogged?
