convertible with h pipes

Post by blkpwr on April 12th 2009, 10:43 pm

does anyone in the club have an s197 convertible with h pipes , or x pipes?
how loud is it on the highway? I know our convertibles are pretty good at keeping noise out but pipes are pretty loud. also- is it tolerable with the top down on the highway?

I think osudoc21 had a vert with an o/r h or x pipe a while back you might send him a pm and ask about it. He's not on everyday but I'm sure he'd be happy to answer your query.

IMO i would just make sure that you keep the cats on the car for sound purposes if you went with a X unless you like alot of rasp. It shouldn't be that bad on the highway because you usually don't go over 2500 RPM.

Like Clayton said...the Cats will help with keeping the popping and drone down. you might either just change the mufflers and leave the Stock H pipe...OR Change over to an off road H and leave the stock mufflers. This will keep the sound under control for the most part

If I got h pipes, how hard would it be to adjust my sct tune to accomodate the pipes?

If it is an off road H or X pipe it may throw a code until the rear O2 sensors are turned off in the tune. Some of the tuners turn them off in all their tunes. If it's a tune from Bama Chips or Brenspeed they may already be off. If your going to a catted pipe it won't be necessary to modify the tune.

I had a brenspeed tune on my 06 and put on a Pypes brand O/R H pipe and it never threw any codes. Just FYI

it has a brooksspeed tune. I guess I should keep the cats from what I've read here. Do members help each other with stuff like this at meets?

Tech days. Also If you don't want to wait American Autosports can do it for a reasonable charge. We can also get you the Hpipe if you don't already have one. Paul or myself can get you further details if your interested.

Oh also I think most folks are running cattless pipes with no issue. What mufflers are you currently running?

does it matter if I got the long tubes later after putting on the O/R pipe or would it be smarter to get them and install them at the same time

Well if you get long tubes later, you will have to get a new x-pipe for the long tubes cause they are different. What are you looking for, sound or performance?

you want to get them at the same time as david said. if you don't you will be replacing the midpipe when you do get headers. my personal choice is macs for the price and kooks if you have the extra cash. both about the same hp advantages, but the kooks imo are a better quality.

after doing it all see how you like the sound. if it's wrong for you change out your axle backs for the stockers. many have done this and love it.

david or paul please send me a quote for macs. I would want the hp although I do like the old school sound of the H pipes too. So I would wait and get them together thanks for your answers on that
