1993 explorer help
Hey guys need a little car help. I replaced the gaskets on the valve covers today and wanted to check the PCV valve. But I am not sure were it is located on the 1993 Ford Explorer? Can you help me with the location, have looked all over the web for pictures and help. Really nothing that I can find. So if you can help that would be great. Still trying to find where this oil leak is coming from. I am hoping it is not the rear main seal or the oil pan gasket (heard this took pulling the engine out). But it looks to me a whole lot of oil around the main seal, but I could be wrong. Changed the gasket because I thought it might have been leaking from there, but when I got in there today, did not seem to be the problem. I will check the drain plug and oil filter tomorrow to see if that might be the issue (not crossing my fingers).......
Thanks again for all the help in advance!

See if this helps, Mikey: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Where%20is%20the%20PCV%20valve%20on%20a%201993%20ford%20bronco . I know it's not a Bronco, but PCV valve is probably in the same location.

Ok I will take a look at that tomorrow. I have read back behind by the firewall and on the passenger side valve cover??????

Re: 1993 explorer help
Mike look for a piece of hose coming from the inake to the back of the engine perhaps on the lower intake manifold. The PCV is for ventalation of the crankcase thus needs to be vented to the intake to draw in the air. The PCV valve is to let air by and keep the oil in. Just follow the hoses. It will be about 3/8 to 1/2 inch in diameter.

Re: 1993 explorer help
some pcv's are right on the drivers side valve cover on the back side and is plugged in to the cover so you really only see the top of it and it will have a hose running from it to the intake

Re: 1993 explorer help
i remember on the fox 5.0 it was on the back of the engine, behind the intake manifold. there is a metal mesh inside of the intake and the pcv is on top of that with a rubber grommet.

Mike have you tried different Ford/Explorer forums? They are much like our mustang forums, just with a bunch of explorer goo roos and off road junkies hehe
You might try registering on them and have them troubleshoot the leak. Take pictures if you can and post them on here and the explorer forums. Just a thought. Here are a few forums I found

Have not. Could not get under there yesterday, to much to do. Might next step though is probably clean all the oil off so it might be easier to pin point.
Thanks for the help, will try to this week and let you know. Might even take some pics and post them so you guys can see what I am talking about.

Re: 1993 explorer help
Here is a pic of the pcv valve. This pic is the exact one you should be looking for. It is the Hastings replacement part pic. When looking for it you will only see the black part with the hoses running off of it because the silver is plugged into something.

Here is a pic of the fram version. Shows for 1995 to 2003 but may look like this as well. But probably looks like the one in the post above.

Re: 1993 explorer help
This is what it would look like if it is in the valve cover. I would expect it to be on the drivers side valvecover on nearest to the fire wall but dont know. Notice you can only see the top of it and not the metal part. It will have a hose running from it to the intake. For removeal you just pull it out. It just pops in and pops out with a vacume ball in it. pull it out and shake it, if it rattles its probably still good but there are cheap enough to replace. Hope this helps

Here it is attached to a metal hose leading to the intake. This was about my setup on the 1999 cobra but pretty universal. you can see the pcv still attached at the left end.
