tapping oil pan

Post by 87pony on May 6th 2009, 11:05 am

I suppose this goes here, Does anyone have a tap that I can borrow that taps for an an-10 fitting? Not real sure on the size but I think its a 5/8? Just need to use it for a day to tap my oil pan. Thanks.

The oilpan is thin.I would weld a nut,or pipe coupling on the pan, drill a hole through the nut or coupling and put the an fitting in the nut or coupling. Use whatever will screw onto the an 10 fitting.

car crazy is correct, that is the best way to do it. if you tap the pan you better be able to get all the shavings from it. if you dont look out motor. if it is off the motor then should be pretty easy.

welding it on also prevents any leaks that might occur.

i have done 4 blower pan taps and its best welded.

I know it is best welded, but i am not taking the pan off, I know many people have tapped a line there and jb welded it and had no problems, so all I am really looking for is a tap for it.

If you do it that way cover the tap with grease like Lucas Red and Tacky and go slow. The grease will hold alot of the shavings and keep them out of your pan.

ya im not too worried about it, I just was hoping someone had a tap I could use so I don't have to spend the $ to use the thing once.
