I'm planning to run the Tulsa half marathon in November. Just wondered if anyone has ran it or plans to. Working up to run a full next year in OKC.

Are you doing the Route 66 Half? Jerry and I are planning on running the Route 66 Full Marathon this year. Both of us ran the Tulsa run last year (15k)....had a blast.
We are going to have to start putting the miles in in preparation for the race...I heard it can be brutal. Never done a marathon...always wanted to!! So here we are planning on doing it. But planning and doing are 2 very different things.

Background: Started running in 6th grade for Union....progressed to Varsity Cross Country and Track....Been running on and off ever since. Mostly for recreation and keeping in shape.

Re: Any Runners
I was not able to walk for about a week after the tulsa run, but other than that it was not bad.
I really want to try and do the full marathon.

Re: Any Runners
im actually a lil bit interested in this tulsa run
i know i can run over 2 miles at a 4.5 pace
anymore info on it?
hmm the 2k looks too easy, 5k looks about where im at right now
lets see
i'll work out Sunday, Monday,Wednesday,Friday,Saturday as opposed to sunday, monday and wednesdays
need to strengthen up my legs and glutes
whats that exercise called where you sit on the floor and put your legs straight out and lift yourself up by just your hands but you have to use your legs, arms and abs to be able to do it?

Yes, I am doing the Route 66 Half in November. Started running again in December after 8 years of no doing much at all. Did a 12K as part of a relay for the OKC Memorial Marathon this year and seem to be getting addicted. Running about 25-30 miles a week now.

Wow thats a lot of miles your putting in....great job! Are you varying your workout regemend? Mixing it up with a track workout does wonders for the lungs (intervals, ladders, sprints, etc etc) will def help you reach your ultimate goal and lessen the strain on your lungs and muscles.
www.Marathonrookie.com is a great place to get some ideas on a workout schedule...by no means am I saying use it....just gives you some direction
Also make sure your getting your rest in during the week. You want to have 3 days during the week of complete rest...no running. Then the other 4 days...your distance will vary depending on where your at physically. You dont want to peak too early or injur yourself. You want to peak about 2 weeks before the race....then dial it down a bit and conserve energy and muscle tissue. This way your in tip top shape for the race.

Thanks for the info. This whole thing started in December when I got on the scale at 210 and made the commitment to get my fat ass moving again. At 41 I figured it was now or never. Started lifting everday at lunch and ran 20 mins on the tread mill. Got bored of the treadmill fast and started running after work. Currently running 5 -6 miles Mon - Friday and 10 on Sunday with Saturday off.
Still doing the weights at lunch and will modify my run the closer we get to November.

Re: Any Runners
I like your determination, what is your diet plan?
I'm trying to get my diet to where i burn body fat, and having a hard time getting in more protien, some reason i always end up having more carbs than my protien.

Thanks, I'm kind of winging it on the diet. Basically Cereal or 2 eggs on toast for breakfast, piece of fruit at 10 and 2. Normally have a bag of peanuts after my luch workout. Them eat what ever the wife cooks for dinner. I just make sure I dont over eat.
Like I said just wingin it. With all the running I have actually had to start eating more that I thought. Seems to be working down to 185 and feel and look better that I have in 15 years.

Seems like your doing great!! I too have to eat a ton to maintain weight. Otherwise I start to look like skeletor hehe
I started at 205 lbs and did what you did...decided to start eating better and working out. Took me just 7 months but got down to 158....TOO SKINNY! Ate my way back up to about 165ish or so....Im 6' 1''...Im still skinny I guess...but I feel healty!! And I can eat what I want when I want due to the working out...its great! Im basically maintaining now.......
Im going to have to start eating a lot more if Im going to start training for a marathon. I dont want to wither away
