want to learn to ride a bike

Was driving home on the highway, saw 2 people on a sports bike, one of them was a chick, and i instantly wanted a sports bike.

problem is i dont know how to ride one and last time i tried to sit on a bike it almost fell over cause it was soooo heavy, course the previous owner was like over 6ft and im 5ft 4, i couldnt get 1 foot to touch the ground.

and another problem is, what guy with a bike is gonna let me learn on theres with such huge egos guys with bikes have, almost damn near impossible.

I already know how to drive a standard in a car, So what is harder? learning to drive a stick in a car, or riding a sportsbike?

You'd have no problem learning to ride a motorcycle, Amanda - the question is, do you really want to? I had a Honda Shadow 1100cc bike for years; sold it after the umpteenth time a "youth challenged" driver in a Buick with a handicap permit swinging from the rear-view mirror looked me right in the eye and turned in front of me. There are some ridiculously bad drivers in this town, and the motorcyclist never wins in a crash. I decided four wheels and steel all around me is the way to go.

yeah sure, i'd love to learn to drive one, im not wanting something stupid fast where i'd have trouble keeping the front wheel on the ground.

I would love one but with 2 kids and a wife I cant. I keep having these voices in my head that say, "Its not just your life your gambling, its your kids lives as well because there life will change with out me here on this earth".

Just something to think about.

i know how to ride, its not hard, just have to understand when you get on a bike you become a fighter pilot, that doesnt make you cool it just means that every other person on the road with 4 wheels(more or less) is trying to kill you!!

Agreed. All those little fender benders are no big deal in a car but on a bike that fender is your LEG!! Get my point

Amanda....you will not kill yourself on a bike. Someone else not paying attention will kill you. Tulsa traffic and stupidity is not somewhere you want to ride a bike being a novice.

I would suggest learning on a dirtbike first. You can lay it over and not give 2 thoughts about it. It will teach you throttle control, breaking, and turning. Its much lighter and forgiving.

Now I wouldnt suggest you ride a bike to "look like a cool chick" that you saw riding one. If she rides much longer...that pretty face may be messed up due to the idiot driver that changed lanes and didnt see her. Laying a bike over at 70 mph never ends well.

Youtube motorcycle accidents. This alone will deter you.

we'll i never really was interested in wanting to ride one because i didnt think i could cause im too short and wouldnt be able to balance one, but that was untill i saw another girl riding one, an i thought, hey if she's driving one so can i.
i unno guess its thats inner drive in me that wants to learn new things.

well........considering the fact i did something seriously stupid on 169 with a 350z that resulted of me deciding to back off cause of how dangerous it was, makes me think otherwise in getting a bike.

Think about all those times you felt that way and how many times you said "That was Close" or "That could have been bad" and that alone will change your mind.

Just find someone that owns a bike and play with theres on occation in a safe enirnment and get your fix then give it back.

Sounds like u guys really dont want me to get one.

And the news is 90% "Headline...car didnt see bike. Motorcyclist Dead at age 22." "Car changed lanes without looking, 2 dead on motorcycle"

Its 90% always someone else that gets the biker killed. Its not that anyones worried about doing something "Stupid"...its always the traffic.

if you want to learn to ride i still have my old dirtbike, if i get it running again you can learn in it, its a 200? honda 230f its what i learned to ride on. i may not have it for much longer though, may trae it for a newer and bigger bike

Here is my advice:

Learn on a dirt bike so replacement parts are cheaper after the crash.

Riding really slow is harder than going fast

Learn to use both front and back brakes for quick stopping power. People will turn in front of you but after a while you can see it coming.

Always go 5-10 mph faster than everyone else, helps avoid their blindspots

Taking a bike on a scenic drive is really nice, don't use it as a daily driver.

Turtles are scary when your winding through roads at 80 mph.

I have ridden bikes for years and love it! My brother is selling his 06 R6 for 5K if you are interested. What they are saying is true, but if you wear your gear and pay attention, you will be fine.

first thing i learned when i was taught to ride a bike many years ago is no matter how good of a rider you are, you have to look out for other people. you could get a small 250cc bike and be fine until you get more comfortable.

will the bike roll forward if i have it down in 1st and slowly left off the clutch with no gas?

Seriously, my dad was a hospital administrator for most of his career, and anytime I brought up getting a motorcycle, he shared one of his many ER bike wreck stories. Pretty much scared me right out of riding one -- EVER.

if you bought a bike with a choke, you could set the idle higher to where it would.

Amanda it is just as easy to take off on a bike as a car but if you over throttle and accidently drop the clutch in a car you get thrown back in the seat but if you do this on a bike you fall of the bike, or backflip. just a thought.

thats why a 250cc would be ideal. you can almost rap those out, drop the clutch and not even pull the front...

heres my 2002 gixxer. i sold it last summer and regret it everyday...
