REFRIGERATOR ADVICE

Post by Guest on July 2nd 2009, 11:03 am

Looking for some advice. Just baught our first home, but it doesnt come with a frige. The rest of the appliances are Stainless Steel, so of course I want the firge to match.

Has to have a water and ice dispenser.

What are your suggestions? Any great buys or "stay away froms"?

Thanks

We just bought a new fridge from Metro Builders Supply at 53rd & Mingo. They have a great selection and good prices. Ask to see their "scratch & dent" room; that's where we found our new one - little bitty scratch on the side (which isn't even visible because it sits in a recessed cabinet) and they had the price marked down. Ours is a GE Profile; also have the dishwashers in the same line - been very happy with GE appliances. (Although I think all major appliances are now made by the same one or two manufacturers and they just slap different labels on them.)

our builder is giving us his "at cost discount" at Metro Builders Supply. This might be our best bet! Thanks David C

Get the best appliances you can afford. Thats the best advise I can give. You'll have them for a long time. Also make sure you get a warranty with them.

Re: REFRIGERATOR ADVICE

Post by sprint200 on July 2nd 2009, 9:03 pm

Okay, I deal with six figure appliance orders for many of my clients and have gone through picking out stuff for my own house (with an actual budget lol! )

Take a look at the Kitchenaid line. GE is nice but a bit higher price point than Kitchenaid.

As far as Metro; if you are buying something they have "in stock" and taking it home that day, then you're good. If you are ordering or asking them to hold it 'till the house is ready.......you're probably getting ready to be screwed. Every client I have had (and myself included) has had Metro sell their appliances out from under them after they have been told it is in the warehouse awaiting delivery! Metro calls it "rotating stock". In the car business it would be called illegal! So there you sit for 6 weeks waiting for a new oven, while you're waiting to move into your new house.

Can you tell I don't like Metro......?????

I worked for Melton's Appliance Company for 4 years.... Metro sucks..... How is GE a higher price point than Kitchenaid? Back when I was in the business Kitchenaid was top of the line whirlpool.... just as Jenair was to Maytag. I know they merged... But GE is crap!!! The same part, made by GE will cost twice as much if it is going into a GE appliance verses a whirlpool/maytag/amana/etc.....

Metro is crap too...... They are great for builders.... but I would never go there to purchase appliances as an individual!!!

I'm speaking specifically of the Monogram series (which IIRC is reserved to the GE label). And the Monogram refrigerator was almost $1k more than the Kitchenaid equal, ditto for the 6-burner duel-fuel oven/range combo units.

Of the "commercial grade" (looking) appliances, I know that I would take either GE or Kitchenaid over Viking! And as far as top of the line...........that's Sub-Zero for refirgerators and either Wolf or Aga for stoves......... beerdrink

I agree with the last sentence.... but Jarrod is a cheap ass and if he got the option.... He would buy the Fub-Zero or Folf appliances! lol!

Spending more can be good and bad. I agree that you should get more quality, however with some of these its just more stuff to go wrong and fix. Whatever happened to just putting your food in the fridge and keeping it cold?? Now its almost a his and her settings for the fridge. Too much electronics.

I need one as well, so if you see any good deals on a white one, let me know.

ive got the LG stainless side by side with the TV in the door and me and the wife love it, only thing that really sucks is the filter replacements are $49 unless you get em on ebay for $25 like we did

no problems at all, no fingerprints on stainless either, found it at BB for $1400 when they were going to the new models had to look all over the US for one!

have had it two years not one single problem yet,

bros have kitchenaid and no problems with them either
