Re: Hey Everyone
Aluminator short block and procharger, vortech, Paxton etc centri blower. Ner the same money as a good twin screw. This is what I'm considering if I don't go to a gt500 or a new 2011 5.0?

I too have tossed up Centri or Twin Screw....I just love the Whine! The Procharger sounds great at idle and Whooshes from the Bypass valve....but I love that whine and istant power!

Re: Hey Everyone
For me it's all about the performance for dollar ratio. I've been thinking more and more about just keeping my car and making some improvements. Lol. IMO the aluminator short block and a centri blower make the most sense for the money. With the right combo you can upgrade the blower to produce upwards of 600 rwhp. Plenty for a street car.

I wonder how instant the boost would be for street play on a centri. I guess I would just have to ride in one to tell.

Re: Hey Everyone
Well. I think even if it's not instant that's ok. With too much power on tap instant boost will just blow the tires off. Easing into the power may actually be a good thing.

Re: Hey Everyone
Here is my take, with my old 95 cobra with the vortech s-trim, it wasn't instant hp, but once above 3500rpms or so it would start cooking. Now the gt500 is totally different beast, its brutal down low, pulls hard in all rpm ranges.
Until just recently when I got the new rims and drag radials on, it was just plain stupid to turn the traction control off, it was scary and liked to go hunting for ditches. I know for a fact my old 95 cobra didn't have 500rwtq at 2000rpms, wasn't even close. I think the gt500 held over 500rwtq around 4500-5000rpms. So just depending what you want, centri will get you in the 9's or faster in all out drag setup, but TS will be better for the street and still will get you low 10's or 9's with the right setup.
This is coming from a guy that use to swear on centri and vortech s-trims, that is till I got a gt500. :)

Re: Hey Everyone
OK I'll put my two cents in on this one. I have owned cars with three different types of power adders. Nitrous, Centri S/C (Procharger to be exact) and a Terminator Cobra with the stock Eaton blower. Hands down performance per dollar goes to nitrous, obviously. It has the most low end torque of any power adder including roots style or twin screw blowers. The draw-backs are obvious. You have to fill the tank periodically, and unless you have a remote bottle opener you have to crack open the bottle before you leave your house each time. The Procharged car I had was a 2002 GT that I first had nitrous on. The car had 4.10 gears in it which meant getting into the "sweet spot" in the rpm range was easy and quick. I never felt like that car had a lack for low-end torque and it would pull to the sky. As long as you kept your foot in it, it would keep pulling. It sounded like a rocket every time I got on the gas. My favorite sound comes from the roots style or the twin screw blowers. It is hard to beat the whine when you get in it. The best way for me to describe the seat-of-the-pants feel between the centri-blowers and the twin screws is this: the centrifugal superchargers build boost that starts and keeps climbing as long as you keep your foot in it. The boost feels more like a turbocharged car. With the twin screw blowers your car feels more like a big-block car with instant torque. The boost is much more linear and constant. Depending on whether you like instant and linear torque or if you like boost that never seems to quit building in my opinion tends to be what makes people decide between one or the other. Price is also a consideration and in the world of superchargers the twin screw type tend to be more expensive. I don't know if that helps anyone but there is my take.

Re: Hey Everyone
I have not owned a turbo powered car. My wife's Volvo XC90 has turbos but it really could use some tweaking!!
I don't think she will let me near it though. I have ridden in a turbo powered Mustang and it had a bit of a turbo lag (probably due to the size of the turbo) but once the boost kicked in, holy @$!t!! The boost came on so strong and so fast he was having to bang gears like no tomrrow. Turbos make the most power per pound of boost over any of the superchargers. They are not driven by the crank, only by the wasted exhaust gases so there is immediatley an efficiency gain not being driven by the crank from the motor. Having had the other power adders I would be interested in looking at twin turbos or a single turbo set up. I need to save more pennies though. Hmmmm wonder what turbos + nitrous would do to my stock short-block?
