N/A or FI

Post by usafimj on July 6th 2009, 1:21 am

Currently deployed until mid-Aug. I have the go ahead from the wife to buy some stuff. I'm looking into getting a Whipple H.O. or Roush TVS kit http://www.vmptuning.com/store/index.php?p=catalog&parent=116&pg=1 OOORRRRRRR I can buy some N/A parts. I can probably buy a 298 forged stroker, heads, cams, arp bolts, new flywheel/clutch, gaskets, GT500 oil pump the works but probably won't have enough to get the blocked worked over...lol Yea sad I know

So what would you guys do??

s/c and don't look back. If you keep it safe you should be ok with stock motor.

As long as you keep the power under 500 you should be ok with the stock internals. Anything more and you're living on borrowed time.

However there is somthing to be said for a fast NA car too. With the combo you spoke of it could be good for 11 second time slips at around 115 mph. The FI setup would be a simpler route to speed.

Both The Whipple and TVS seem to be great setups! Very complete! I would say supercharge it and be done with it! Much more reliable power on demand...and you can always turn up the boost with a built motor :)

Buy an aluminator short block and a procharger. Not much more than a high priced twin screw. This way you have the bottom end to handle big power >600hp. and you have a little boost. Combo could be good for mid to low 11s maybe more if you can drive.

The sure way to Big, Fun power with the three valve motors, or any mod-motor for that matter, is power adders. Superchargers are, like the guys said, safe and reliable. Keep the tune safe and have fun for a long time on a stock motor. Tweak it a little for the track days and have a little more fun and return it to a safe tune when you leave the track.
