mil eliminator for 05?

Post by joe0291 on July 8th 2009, 8:01 pm

Hi all, I'm new to this site. Just a quick intro, I've recently purchased an '05 GT. I had a '90 LX 5.0 a few years ago and have been kicking myself ever since for getting rid of it. So I'm very happy to be back in a Mustang. My 05 is for the most part stock. What mods it does have was done by the previous owner. The exhaust has been upgraded, headers and an X pipe and it has a cold air intake. Still fairly tame but for now it is my daily driver so I'm ok with that. I do have plans for it but that will come in time.
I have a question I hope someone here can help me with. Like I said the exhaust has been upgraded and my check engine light is on. I know this is a common problem, had the same issue with my '90 and I just put up with it. But I'd like to do something about it this time. I've been doing some research on line and the one thing I keep coming across is something called a "mil eliminator". Problem is I can only find them availible for '04 or older. Is this mil eliminator the answer to my problem and I'm just looking in the wrong place for one for an '05 and newer or is there something else I need to do?

most guys will tell you just to get a tuner and turn it off that way. however, if you dont want to go that route, you CAN find MIL's for 2005+.

MIL or Malfunction indicator light eliminators are jumper harnesses that go between the O2 and the factory wiring harness to fool the computer and shut off that annoying light on the dash. I believe you can get them for 05 up cars. You might try www.brenspeed.com , www.50resto.com , www.mustangsunlimited.com , I'm sure I've seen them I just don't remember where. Other alternatives are to buy a tuner such as SCT or Diablosport and get a custom tune with the rear O2 sensors turned off (these are the ones triggering your MIL). You may also contact Greg (KBcal) and see if he has a way to load a tune for you. Hope this helps

What Cold air kit do you have? If it didnt require a tune...I would def look into one that does. They offer packages for Cold air induction With an XCAL3 tuner that you can order from Brenspeed or Bamachips that comes custom just for your 05 with the current mods you have. The annoying check engine light will go off because they will turn off your Rear O2 sensors.

The custom tune and better CAI should add some punch to your 05 GT. You should feel a big difference

I suggest the JLTII CAI with XCAL3 from brenspeed or Bamachips

Or C & L RACER CAI with Xcal3

They are spendy...but worth it
