I better be wrong

Post by KevinGT on July 13th 2009, 9:56 am

I have used the same paint and body guy since I have owned my car. The last time I took it in I swear that I was 150 miles short of needing an oil change but when I got it back It was over the limit. I could be completely wrong on this so I am not going to name the shop. The Mustang OK car show is in Sept so I thought I would have the some touched up and some other odds and ends done in time for the show. While I was sitting in the parking lot waiting to check it in I took a video of mileage and also reset all the GPS numbers so I will know how many miles it has gone since I dropped it off and the Max speed. I wont pick the car up till mid August but I hope I am wrong. If that car back and my top speed is 120 mph or alot of mileage put in the odometer then you guys are going to see me on the evening news. spank

Stranger things have happened with cars left at body/mechanics' shops! Go get 'em!

Hate to hear that. I bet that your suspicions are correct though. I suggest kicking them in the nards and not paying the bill. Call all the news stations and threaten to sue.

I would guess that the guys took the car out for a joy ride. Very unproffesional and I would be looking for compensation for the added miliage and wear on the car. The paint work should be taken care of. Lord only knows how far up the tach they went. 120MPH...Id be killing someone

I took yours for a joy ride jarrod, got beat by some honda's, missed couple gears, did some nice smokey burnouts with your line lock. Overall it was a real productive day when I had your car! lol!

Funny,i did just the opposite.I took mine to joe cooper for the oil leak.I filled the car up before i dropped it off.Told the mech. it was ok to drive the car home a few days and make sure the leaked was fixed. At the end of the week, they called and said it was ready. The fuel read out said o miles to empty. mouth You know that baby saw some BOOST.They have been very fair with me on the work,so i didn't push the issue, but it won't happen again. And yes it has to go back.

man that sucks if they did. Have to be carefull who you take your car to.

Houston Performace totaled a guys 03 cobra on a test drive. Story below:

Yep, it's my friends Cobra has only 15K miles on it, always garaged, beautiful car. Has TONS of upgrades from custom interior, 2 piece drilled slotted rotors, coil-over shocks, 19" rims, etc. Now the good stuff- 302 stroker, ported/polished heads, stage 2 cams, 2.3 Whipplecharger, and every other bolt-on imaginable. Made 629 RWHP with a conservative tune on pump gas.

Anyway he had Houston Performance build and install the engine. There ended up being a fuel issue so he took it back to have it looked at. A couple days later he got a call from the owner saying that oneof the mechanics totalled the car on a "test drive."

It aparrently went over a curb which destroyed all but one of the rims(and completely ripped the lip off one of them.) Then it seems it went through a fence. A green picket fence we presume since the rear quarter looks like it was hit by a 4x4 post- then on the wheel well you can see the dents every few inches after that until the next major damage on the front fender where the next 4x4 post hit it and tore off the front bumper.

I'm no lawyer, but they claim their insurance doesn't cover test drives!!! That doesn't sound right to me at all. I have a feeling this may get ugly.

I think that would get me thrown in jail for sure. Then after that to hear that the insurance won't cover. I'd be going to the pokey for murder.

Cars are such a big investment next to a home....that would be like the refridgerator repair man breaking in to your home....dirtying up the carpet...eating your food....taking a bath and shower in your home...breaking the granite counter top...and walking away as if nothing happened

I'm fairly sure that guy could find a lawyer to make the shop pay for that. If nothing else, the BBB could refer someone, and put those guys out of business for good. That just sucks.

Geezzzzz, what Dealership would let three teens take a test drive by themselves in the first place? Hopefully they didn't kill anyone on the other end.

That's what I was thinking, Bob. That salesman should have gone along for the ride. I wonder if that one came out of his paycheck. WTF

ok for the cobra, even if their insurance doesnt cover test drives, they still have to pay for the damage. raplace the car and with a good lawyer he could amke them replace everything else as well. by law they were reponsible for the vehicle.

could get a link to the story for the cobra please?

as for your gt? you could get your touch up work done free by talking to them with simple threats lol!
