Budget stock shifter moded.
I really do like the Hurst shifter look but I just don't have the extra money to do any more mods on the car. So I just used my creative skills at my job to make a budget stock shifter upgrade. Yes the Puerto Rican is at it again. I took a stock shifter, cut it, welded on it, modified the lower lever and changed the bushings. It turned out pretty good. The shifts are shorter, it looks good in the car and it only cost under $100. Here's what i did...
I purchased a stock shifter that I was going to do the mods to. $20

Then I cut the shifter handle off and replaced the rubber bushings with poly bushings. $17

Here is the Hurst shifter stick w/ ball. $60

I carefully measured, position, tested, grinned, welded and orientated the offset of the handle on to the shifter.

I saw that Saleen makes a short throw shifter block for the stock shifter handle and I study up on it. I then took the original shifter off my car and cut the lower part of it that bolts on to the levers of the tranny. It kinda looks like a block. I welded and reinforced the block onto the modded shifter right under the the other block. All this dose is increase the length of the lower lever to give it the shorter shifts. That right there finishes off the modded stock shifter

Here is the pics of it in my car. Its sits lower, the shifts are shorter, theses no spongy feel any more and it feels nice and tight. Not bad for a cheep azz, ghetto rig, crazy Puerto Rican idea.

If its the one I saw for $140, I seen it. I just wanted the chrome shifter and Hurst ball. Gives the classic car look that I'm looking for. Beside... it was fun and scary to do.

Re: Budget stock shifter moded.
How did the lengthening of the stock arm location work for shortening the throw? Is it comparable to the hurst?

Don't know. I really haven't mess with a Hurst shifter. Next time we meet we compare each others stick. (EWWWWW)

I found this on the web.
