Cobra IRS into a GT

Post by Guest on November 17th 2009, 11:15 pm

So, I have spotted a complete IRS from an 03/04 cobra. As you may know, Im in that phase where I want to spend more moeny than I can afford on my car. SO with that said, and with the little talk I had with Jerry and searching... what info do you all have on pros and cons of doing this swap. I doubt I will do it, but just looking a little further into it and what peoples opinoins are of the swap, and if anyone is willing and able to help. That is if I miraculously get this cheap, who knows!

Like I said, it depends on what your ultimate goal for the car is. If your just going to drive it, you will notice some ride improvment. If your going to drag race it, stick with the SRA, if you want to make a road course car out of it, swap it. Those are my thoughts. If you get it sheap enough, might be worth while to do.

I think it would be a great upgrade if you can get for a bargain. Like Jerry mentioned... if you plan on doing a lot of drag racing... stick with the solid axle.

Other things to consider... ask what it comes with. Some will sell the brake assembly etc separate. For the most part it will bolt right up. However you'll need to reroute the exhaust and and get a custom drive shaft.

It includes everything. Brakes, shocks, springs, everything.

What are your goals for the car?

The IRS if built up right can take a beating for sure. It just has to be done right. And this is coming from a Solid axle guy, lol. I love mine for the fact that it's super strong and dropped about 120lbs off the car. Not to mention it doesn't ride that bad at all but you can't beat the look of the IRS with the exhaust!

Seriously though, they both are great for whatever you want to do.

Saw that... They are the IRS of choice among AC Cobra builders... It use to be the Jag and Tbird IRS' now it's the 03 -04 Cobra/termi rears.
