Steeda UDP

Post by BMMC1 on November 23rd 2009, 7:59 pm

Seems my Steeda UPD pullies have failed. The injected rubber in the lower or Harmonic balancer pulley has started to deteriorate causing a wobble. Shreading the belt in the process. It actually started grinding a groove in the cam housing cover. Glad I caught it quick. Calling Steeda tomorrow to see if they will warrantee it. Just wondering if anyone else has seen or heard of this? Seems I may be a 1 in 1000 case study.

BTW... I have maybe 3-4k since install. I've installed about 10 of these setups with no problems (that I know of). Actually glad it mine....

wow, thats obviously waaaaaay too early for those things to fail. Steeda should warranty it, especially for how overpriced their stuff is.

Good thing it didn't happen on the cruise. Maybe that was somehow part of your cutting out at the Higher RPM's. Maybe you have had some belt slippage.

When you have the balancer off you need to see if you can see the crankshaft reluctor ring look for cracks it could crack the reluctor and give you erratic ignition timing

Looked at all that while I was in there. Looks fine. I actually think the plugs fixed the problem. Even though the old ones looked fine. Odd.

On the UDPs... Called Steeda and they will replace. Sending the old one in today. Great guys... I also worked out a deal with them so if any of you guys want anything that Steeda makes, let me know. I can get it for you and a discount.

Got the pully back and installed. All is good.

While I had it apart I went ahead and painted the throttle body (because they like to pit between the two throttle bodies) and stripped then polished and cleared the steeda WP pulley. Looks nice.

Good to hear it's all fixed and Steeda stepped up and stood behind their product. Makes me feel safe buying Steeda merchandise.
