Looking for a church to go to.

Post by Papi on February 17th 2010, 9:23 pm

Hey guys, I really haven't been to church in a while except 3 to 4 times with a friend out here. I'm looking to get back into it and to find a new church. I'm a Roman Catholic and want to find a good church in my area that's Roman Catholic. I live on 41st and Garnette area. I've done the Google and Yahoo searches for churches in my area. I'm just not sure witch one to go to. Any help from anyone who's been to any of the Catholic churches out here?

St Anne Catholic Church http://www.stanneba.org/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Tulsa http://www.dioceseoftulsa.org/

I know theres more in my area but them two are the closest to me or I might like.

Catholics.... help me out.

Just my opinion, the Diocese of Tulsa looks more traditional, which would be my choice. I'm guessing the mass times are about the same, plenty of worship opportunities thumbsup

St. Anne's looks more progressive, but I am just going by what I've read on their websites. Not being from Tulsa, I'm not much help, mi amor.

St benedicts is a good one, 101 and Aspen. Father Joe is really nice guy and easy to listen to. Plus an OSU fan.

I have grew up going to St Bernards, 101 and Yale. Another good place to go. Monsignor Gallas is there and has a really nice mass as well. Those are really the only two I have gone to. St Bernards has a 5:00 Sunday evening Mass that is pretty laid back.

Really? I hear the Branch Dividians have a good program............. They even have an opening for a new pastor type person from what I understand. Also a rather large compound. Its a bit charred at the moment but really quite lovely from what I hear.

I'm Roman Catholic and like to stay Roman Catholic. My sister try to help me out with what was close to were I live and what popped up on the internet. She loves "Holy Family Cathedral" ( http://www.holyfamily-tulsa.org/ ) but it might be a bit far for me for now. I like the Diocese of Tulsa more. Like Sandy said it dose look more traditional. I'm willing to try a new church every week to find one that I like the most. I'll copy the churches names that you guys mention and Google them for directions. I'll start going this Sunday morning coming up. Once I find one I like then I'll participate in events and other stuff that they might have. I still need to do my Confirmation. I can't get married in a church yet with out it.

I do prefer the traditional mass. I have found that the "new" music in other churches annoys me. I don't need to go see some guy strumming a guitar, barefoot, singing the same verse over and over. Makes me want to go Animal House on him. Which of course sends me back to confession . . .

I love dreary hymns :)

Ours is the traditional hyms with the guitar, some nice vocals, and a Bass. Occasionally at St Bernards, they will have some drums too. Anyting is better than the bell chior. Those bells are awful, every song sounds the same.

Sadly I should have been born in a previous century (no jokes here), because I do like the bell choir, and the old hymns. I don't know why the new age guitar strummers irritate me but they do. It may stem from a hatred of musicians (ex-husband) or the ego involved in standing up front, with that "look at me, I play guitar" look on their faces.

Every time I see a WOW, CD set #whatever, commercial, I want to shotgun the TV.

P.S. I working on the hate thing, that's a regular on the list of confessions

I hope Blair doesn't break out the guitar at one of events, probably wouldn't turn out so good for him, lol.

Maybe you need to just look at them and appreciate their abilities instead of hating them for bringing attention to themselves. I cannot play the guitar. I listen to music to listen to ones talents and abilities. I enjoy music very much. I enjoy, E.C, dire straits, JCM and many others. I look for talents not so much of main stream. Do I listen to the mainstream, absolutely, but I also listen to a lot of the oldies. Not bitching here, just trying to open up persective thats all. :-)

I know what you're saying, and I do appreciate the fact that they can play an instrument, and I can only play the stereo. I'm a fan of Eddie Vedder, Elliott Smith, rather the deeper thinking, more acoustical stuff, or on the flip side, Kings of Leon, Halestorm, Evanesence, 12 Stones, some good christian rock. Love "Ave Maria" with a passion. Even listen to classical while I ride the four wheeler.

I think it's just my traditional upbringing that feels like new music is not as spiritual to me.

I said I was working on the hatred, geez, it's only been 1 1/2 yrs since I decided to dislike them, i"m still bitter, rofl
