Clutch

Post by Oldokie on May 10th 2010, 3:10 pm

I think my clutch is going out. Either that or my tires are balder than I think because when I engage the SC in 3rd, something slips or spins.

Is 12 K on a clutch in a Shelby to be expected? Is there a super heavy duty MoFo clutch avaiable and do you need to order it? Inquiring minds want to know.

Bring it by one day and let me drive, sounds like clutch slipping cause you would be going 80-90mph in 3rd gear, so I doubt its your tires. Believe it or not, these clutches don't last long especially if you slip it alot, I always thought your clutch pedal was much harder to press than mine anyways.

Here are the two I was looking at for mine:

http://www.lethalperformance.com/transmission-clutches-clutch-kits-ram-c-2052_2284_5699_5700_5702/ram-2007-shelby-gt500-street-dual-disc-clutch-kit-26-spline-p-17106

http://www.lethalperformance.com/clutches-clutch-kits-spec-twin-disc-kits-c-2052_2284_5699_5700_5703_5706/spec-07-09-gt500-ss-trim-super-twin-disc-clutch-kit-p-26851

The RAM clutch will have a lighter pedal than the spec one, both are very good though.

yea, that sounds like clutch slip than, your putting one hell of a load on it at 40 in 3rd. You will need a flywheel, dual disk clutches aren't cheap as you see, the stock clutch is gonna be around the same price also.

Ouch!

Yeah, I think I confirmed it yesterday. Higher R's SC on, no prob. Lower Rs, slip. Guess I'll just grin and bear it.

Can you smell the clutch in the car after you think it has slipped.I have never been around a clutch that slipped that didn't smell bad.It is very noticeable.

It only slips for a fraction of a second and then I get my foot out of it. Not long enough to stink things up.

Yep, now its time for some tires and clutch. BTW, those clutches listed do have the flywheel in the kit just in case you missed that.

The Ram. Almost went with the extra torque one, but if this is made for 1,000 hp & 900 ftlbs torque, that ought to be stout enough. That's about twice what I'm pushing.
