That is awesome!!! 5.8L 600 plus hp TVS supercharged monster! Wonder if they will keep the internals the same or go with H beam rods? I hope its not limited to the 750rwhp rating the previous cars are....although what the hell am I going to do with 750rwhp when I have 540ish rwhp and cant get traction now.....but more is always better right?!?

I hope Ford actually plays this smart with the tires and suspension. They need to address the wheel hop and traction

I think wheel hop is why they haven't already switched to the IRS. For some reason I think it would be too costly for them to dump a beefed up IRS suspension in them and still be able to keep the car somewhat affordable. I bet they stick with the SRA, but would love the see one with and IRS.

I am so glad I didn't go out and buy a 2011. This is the one I have been waiting on. Thank you Ford. Life is good.

Sources close to ford say this is incorrect. It would have cost a mere $248 more per Shelby to install an IRS from the 07-12 models. It wasnt about affordability, it was about keeping the nestalgia of the car. Its not a european touring car yet, it has retro lines and feels like a muscle car. Take that away and it doesnt work in my opinion.

Now as the body lines change and go more Euro, then yes the IRS would fit right in.

The above came from one of the main designers and suspension engineers.

But on a side note: With the kind of times the GT500 SVTPP package is producing on the road course, I doubt it would increase its track times going with an IRS. Its a tuned package that works well and can produce over a 1.0 cornering G-force. Where the IRS would be most benificial would be day to day driving on roads that are less than perfect.

I for one hope they keep the SRA due to the strength for drag racing/traction and the feel of swinging the mustang around a corner like the muscle cars of old. IRS would take away a lot of that "feel".

Just my 2 penneys worth

And they really need to be careful. Feedback from customers is most important for the Shelby. Why?

Because a GT500 is a car of passion. People definitely dont purchase this car becuase it has everything or certainly not price (no back up camera, no heated seats, etc) its a drivers car not luxury. Read this on Team Shelby yesterday and thought they hit the nail on the head perfectly. The question was to buy a 2012 GT or 2011 GT500:

"The GT500 is a passion car. Its a car that most of us have dreamed about. Does it make sense financially over the GT? Not at all. But thats not why people purchase this car. Honestly you have to be a fan to buy a 50,000+ car that doesnt have luxury, will not be drive able in the winter, and will not give you traction until 3rd most of the time. But when you are a fan, the car will give you goosebumps each time you see it. I still get em everytime I look at mine. So unless if this is true for you get the GT. As you will not be able to justify the price different between the 2 unless you are built like the owners on this website. My 2 cents"

Car doesnt have to have everything, just needs to be what the majority of these passionate people want. I dont believe the IRS was very high on the list of must haves. Although there are those out there that love the car, but wont purchase due to the Solid axle. An option from ford would be nice i guess. That way the individual getting ready to spend their hard earned money could decide.

First of all let me say I for one think this is great. Makes me think I might wait until 13 now. If ford is going to make a body style change in 14 why introduce a new engine in 13?? Seems like they would do both at the same time! Someone with more in the know explain this to me please!!! (Jarrod).

I believe they are going to refresh some of the Body lines for 2013 if I read that article correctly, but not a complete change until 2014. The motor is def not the only thing changing for '13. Interesting to see what a"mild" change looks like?

They also mentioned the use of LEDs. Might not like the changes for '13 but we'll see. That motor and supercharger alone is worth it ;)
