Sooooooo I've started to want something new... :D

Post by xXBIGxBAREXx on May 29th 2011, 9:57 am

Gonna approach my dad about getting a... MACH 1! I never really knew much about the breed always thought it was a gt with some badges and a factory shaker kit. And I've always loved that body style only reason I went with an s197 was because of the updated interior which now I don't even really care about. So my question, I see mach's are rated factory at like 305hp and mines at around 350 or so but people say stock for stock a mach would beat an s197, so if I traded to a mach how much slower/faster do you think it would be than my current car?

Also if you guys see any orange ones with low miles tell me!!!

Stock for stock I still say the s197 wins. I think the 0-60 for the the mach is like 5.2 vs 5.1 for the s197. But nobody stays stock. To me the s197 does everything else better. Handling, braking, ergonomics, etc. IMO stick with what you have.

As much as I love my body style, yea, stick with what you have... You won't get back what was put in to your car, and to do all this to the Mach would have you spending the same amount...

Performance wise they are both similar, but the Mach 1 has the advantage being a 4 valve ultimately if your looking for every last drop of power.

Mod for Mod you are looking at similar gains, but in the handling department your car has the advantage stock for stock

Dont look at it from a performance standpoint.....choose based on what look you like best.

Do you like the look of your S197 or the New Edge SN95 Mach 1 look? Thats all you will be changing basically.

My vote is keep your car and stick to ONE PLAN. You've changed about 10 times....figure out what you really want and stick to that

Definitely. Modding a car means you need to sit down and decide exactly what you want to do before you do it. Otherwise you end up wasting time and money on things you dont need in the long run...

As you already have or will figure out, I change my mind ALOT. My mom doesn't buy me xmas presents till about 3-4 days before lol. Never could stick with one thing :(.

But whole s/c things a dream since this, or if can snag me a mach 1, will be my last car my parents buy me I need low miles and with a s/c I realized I'm gonna cut my engine life down big time. That's also a reason I was looking at the mach's since I could get one with about 30k miles in the 18-19 grand price range.

Where in the world do you get your info? haha "with a S/C i'm gonna cut my engine life down big time"

Not true at all. When tuned right and not banging the rev limiter every chance you get...the engine should last you just as long as if it was naturally aspirated if you are not trying to reach insane HP numbers with the blower

Again if your wanting a Mach 1 based on performance from what you currently own then you are wasting your money.

If you are wanting performance and are looking in the 17-18k range...go with an 03-04 Cobra. Factory supercharged, fully forged motor and an amazing ride.

Very true. If you do it right, and tune to compensate, you will be fine running a 1000hp car for years... You will be fine as long as you do it right...

Not true again.....

Anything you do to the car whether it be bolt ons, turbo, supercharger, nitrous...or hell even leaving it stock and flooring it over and over to redline will reduce the service life of the motor.

With that being said, if the motor is taken care of and you are smart with it, the engine will out-live your ownership and the next guys and the next guys.

Not to be rude here, but lets not post statements like the one above unless you know 100% truth. We have too many on the forum that take what we say for 100% truth and are basing their decisions off them because they dont know any better.

Better to post nothing at all than to throw out miss-information

Forget Autotrader...too many people proud of what they own and are overpricing their rides.

Check the For Sale Sections on other forums.

Here is a link to SVTPerformance with a TON of Cobras for sale. Some prices high some priced low. Just keep your eye out.

http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/terminators-buy-sell-254/

As for getting 18k for yours, its a possibility, but dont hold your breath. For 18k someone can get a much newer Mustang with lower miles. Throw it up on Ebay with a buy it now price and a reserve that you can live with and see what happens.

I would suggest driving a sn95 before buying one. The driver's position is totally different. IMO the s197 is just more comfortable.

honestly i think driving (really driving) and sn95 is a lot more fun. dont get my wrong i LOVE my shelby but the sn95s are smaller lighter and are more fun to me. with a few K of suspension mods they are a really good time. compairing the 2 cars to me are like apples and pears. similar but still totally different. for a dd that you are going to mod id stick with what you have.

While I do agree that the seats are more comfortable in a S197, i feel the overall view from a SN95 is better... it's all in how you drive though... in a straight line views don't matter, but the S197 seems to have more blind spots to me...

Not saying blind sports.... Talking about ergonomics. The positioning of the driver. For example... In the sn95 the shifter sits way forward compared to the s197. In the s197 you feel as if you're in the car not riding on top of it.

Have you ever driven a s197?

Both the New Edge SN95 and S197 are great in their own regards, But for a daily I prefer the updated chassis, stiffness, and comfort of the S197.

Not to take away from the SN95, You can really feel the road with those cars. When you pounded on the go pedal you felt the torque jerk the body of the car hehe. Even with less HP you tend to feel more "punch" when you mash the gas. Probably because of the chassis, but none the less fun cars.

I will also have to agree with the shifter position...always felt as if I was having to lean forward to shift, but thats part of the charm I think.

I will have a Mach 1 or an 03 04 Cobra in the garage one day to keep the Shelby company, so cant say anything too negative :)

The main difference also is hydraulic vs. cable clutch. I was shocked how much nicer the clutch feel is on the S197! There is a kit now from Mcleoud(sp?) but that's just more money to spend!

If you really like a Mach, get one... They are a bit more rare obviously, but we ultimately know you will change your mind in 3 weeks anyways! lol!
