1st Time Mustang Owner
I recently upgraded my 1997 Camry to a 2011 GT500 Shelby w/ performance package. It has a wee bit more acceleration overall. Not my 1st sports car, I had a 79 TransAm back in high school but this Mustang puts it to shame (along with every other car I've ever been in).
I"m eager to find a road course on which to drive this machine. I see there is a nice looking track West of Tulsa. Do you guys ever get together and rent the track for a day? I see it says max of 5 cars.
More about me, I"m 35, have a family with 3 boys. I work at the Storm Prediction Center (http://www.spc.noaa.gov), also like to storm chase on my off days, play drums, sorta follow economics/stocks and I like beer.
Oh, and I also installed a new stereo system in my car. Used my existing Diamond 12" subwoofer, built custom box in trunk (takes up space directly under rear shelf), drive it with my Memphis 1000D amp, then replaced the doors and shelf speakers with JL C5 570x and C2 570x coaxials, driven with a JL 100X4 amp, left the door 8"s running off stock head unit (may replace at some point) and a 3 Farad capacitor along with a JL Cleansweep to process the signal coming out of the stock headunit/nav.
Here's a picture of my new ride:

Re: 1st Time Mustang Owner
Great to have you Ryan! Car looks amazing. That is the other color I was looking at! Love it. Did you put the wide stripes on yourself as the PP package comes with no stripes or Skinny?
Definitely going to have to get with you at some point in the sound department. I too am thinking about upgrading for better quality.
Glad you chose to come over to the dark side from family sedans and trans ams! :)
As far as the track goes, some of the other guys have more info than I do on Hallet. Im sure they will chime in.
BTW President of the club is an avid storm chaser as well... you will feel right at home here sir.

Welcome Ryan! Hallett is defininitely a blast. What you want to do is High Speed Touring (HST).
http://www.hallettracing.net/
I would recommend the school as well so you can get the most out of your car and experience.

Welcome Ryan! When I first saw your screen name I was wondering if you were a chaser. What do you do for SPC? I don't get too go nearly as much as I'd like to. But, I did get out for the 3 good days this year (4/14, 4/22 & 5/24) I tend to always make time for the PDS days. Jarrod (Shelby10) joined me on the 5/24th chase.
Nice ride too! That was one of the colors I was looking at. It's just a slight upgrade from the Camery! ;)
Once again, welcome to BMMC. We're gonna get along just fine! ;)

Welcome! Love the car.
I know that the Porsche Club of America rents out the Sherriff's Track one weekend a month, would but a cheaper way to learn some about your car before you step out to Hallett.

Re: 1st Time Mustang Owner
Paul,
I am a mesoscale/outlook forecaster. If you've seen the name JEWELL at the bottom of the discussions that is me.
I was on the El Reno/Piedmont storm on 5/24. It rocked. Norman/Noble/Moore REALLY REALLY REALLY lucked out. All the storms suddenly died...a combination of two things
A) Left moving storm interactions, raining into the inflow of the other storms, and B) The stratus stayed around too long during the day. If it had cleared up say 3 hours earlier with full heating, the metro would have been munched.
Crazy year for storms. I've issued 2 High Risks and several Moderates since I've been an outlooker, and it's only been 1 year. Although, I have worked at SPC since 2001.
And thanks for all the welcomes, didn't expect so many in 1 day! I tend to get a head of myself with things so yes, I could use some "driving school" for sure.

Re: 1st Time Mustang Owner
Here are a couple shots of my stereo. Two angles of the trunk, then behind the rear seats. If you look closely, you can see giant "GT 500" on the back panel. It's raised lettering, does not show up too well so I'm thinking of a good way to highlight it. Any thoughts? Also, I ordered 2 Cobra badges which I will affix to either side of the subwoofer.
I only have a single 12" sub, but man it hits hard. Probably because I have 1000 watts going to it...LOL. I've seen used Memphis 1000D amps for sale for around 250-300. Totally worth it IMO. Also, with a single sub, it requires less air space and it's less weight than 2.

If anyone wants help designing a car stereo let me know.
Now, a barrage of random questions.
Are there that many more GT500's near Tulsa than OKC area, so much so that there is a nice website like boldmoves there but not in my area? Just curious.
How do you add a signature and pic to your posts? I looked but did not come across it.

Very nice! Yes. Crazy year for weather. The extremes are nothing I have ever seen. First the snow, then the tornadoes (and the amt of strong tornadoes at that) , now the heat. La Nina? Perhaps...
I got a late start on 5/24. Had some meetings in the afternoon that I couldn't miss. I was looking at all the data coming in all day, especially the CAPE values. Never saw CAPE values that high. Very impressive setup. We got on a rotation near Beggs. The inflow on that one was pretty intense. But the storms were going a bit more linear by then. It was also getting dark so we called it off. That storm did produce the small tornado that briefly touched down in Haskell. A LOT of chasers were out that day. I did get some good footage this year. :)

Re: 1st Time Mustang Owner
I would say that there are more younger "active" GT500 owners in Tulsa than OKC area. I am sure there are a lot of Shelbys in your area but most dont jump on the web to make themselves known..ya know? If you see any let them know about the website! And any nice mustangs for that matter of all years. Send them our way.
Like Chris said David, Myself, Paul, and Jake all made the trasition to GT500s within the last year or so. There are actually quite a few more running around Tulsa, just havent made it on to BMMC yet. We have business cards that we leave on peoples cars that have our info. Just a matter of time before they find us.
AS FAR AS YOUR SIGNATURE AND PROFILE PIC:Click on the Profile link at the top of this page. Then scan the page and you will see "signature" "avatar" etc. Click on those and it should be self explanitory at that point. Just upload your pics.
Also on your main pictures you post it looks to be cutting off most of the pic. This forum doesnt autosize anything so you have to adjust your photo. I use FLICKR.com as it keeps the quality of your photo high and allows you to copy the URL of the size of pic you want to post.
