My wheels AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Post by Corepuncher on August 13th 2011, 4:42 pm

I guess it was bound to happen...my first ding.

From left rim. Dinged the edge on a stupidly shaped curb. probably a stupid error on my part, I've never had low profile tires and now I see how you have to be careful.

Now the question...is there any way to fix it? It's a tiny gouge, maybe 1/4 inch long. Of course scraped the "black" coating off. :-(

Looks like you might be able to sand or grind it down and use some touch up to conceal it fairly well. Might not be totally invisible but probably look better than the gouge.

Interesting! Let us know how it turns out!

Proper way would be to sand it, weld it, sand smoth, and recoat it.

Curious as to what he will do. I have seen some people use body filler, NOT A FAN!

Hey Josh what is BA? Can you put me in contact with this person? Maybe he knows the work that Curbrash does and can tell me if it's worth it or not. Give that it's such a small ding, I might be ok. For 40 bucks, I don't think I can lose.

BA= Broken Arrow

Being from Norman you'd spend more in gas getting here to get it fixed then the guy you've already contacted

Although not a bad Idea to find out more info on the guy in OKC you found to do the work for $40

Ok, got my front wheel fixed today. 40 bucks. Pic below. Compare to pic above. I say...wow! Took em about half an hour. They grided, used some filler (not welded) , paint and clear coat. I think it was small enough of a ding that their method will work just fine.

If it holds up, cool!

Josh, I called 3-Point Wheels when I cracked mine before MA, and they wanted more to repair than the wheel was worth! Ended up just buying another one...

Lee... What $3 bucks?

Ryan... That looks really good! I'm very interested to see if it holds up. Especially when you change tires. Please keep us posted!

Yeah it could be the lighting as well. I try to see where it was from a couple feet away and I can't see anything. I have to look for the "DOT" on the tire to even find where it's supposed to be. Quite satisfied. They were hard at work at the BMW place in OKC so I assume they do a lot of nice cars....11 years now so they must be doing something right. I asked the guy if there was any risk of anything falling off and he said no.

I thought I did too until I looked back at the original pic. The damage was right above that little chip in the tire.

Really good work, matched the paint perfectly...

40 bucks is a hell of a lot cheaper than new wheel, even it if only lasted a year you could do it 5-6 times easily before the cost of new wheel. Looks good btw!
