Post by Shelby10' on August 31st 2011, 11:51 pm

Here is a LONG thread about a members dilemma and the symptoms with the #8 cylinder letting go and what he did afterwards.

I've read several of those threads on TMS about the #8 cylinder. It makes me glad I have a 4.6. :D

Seriously, Ford is aware of the issue and should have it worked out soon.

#8 cylinder isnt wide spread and some believe it was due to tuners trying to figure out the motor and its limits.

Just wierd that its only the #8? Makes you wonder why the weak link?

It's due to design of the cooling passages in the Coyote engine - #8 cylinder has the least amount of coolant lines surrounding it and therefore reaches higher temps than any of the others. I think the tunes are just highlighting an inherent design flaw, causing that cylinder to fail sooner than it would under stock programming.

I was not aware of the coolant passages and your theory is sound. Wonder how ford will address this.

Also you would think that the boosted 5.0s running around would have the issue first, but there are quite a few running around and no issues what-so-ever...and a lot of guys Naturally Aspirated showing problems.
