I'm a Mustang Owner now.... What?
Just picked up a 92 Hatch Auto with a 4cyl.
It's a hot rod! No not really...lol. I'll get some pics tomorrow.
It's not bad, pretty sure it's running on 3cyl's. Horrible knock, steering wheel turns it's self.
But it made it home under it's own power... Poor car doesn't even know what lies ahead....

Re: I'm a Mustang Owner now.... What?
I do have a car buy addiction, not sure on the plans yet.
If I can get the 4cyl running right It may just stay a 4cyl until I finish the truck.
If the 4cyl does not want to be fixed, then all heck will probably break loose....
1. I have a fresh 302 for the truck on the engine stand that may be a good candidate...which means I can rebuild the 460 I have to put it in the truck.
2. I have a low mileage Mark VIII Motor and Trans Sitting with all the computers and wiring that could go in??
3. Strip the inside, Cage it, put some fatty's out back and build the 460 for it....
So I guess this weekend will determine my course of action, rebuilding the front suspension on my jeep first then I'll be diagnosing the hatch....
And a pic of the bucket for now, which will need some of my bodywork skillz:

Re: I'm a Mustang Owner now.... What?
The 4 cylinder is Toast :( Had a bad rod knock right above idle that would get worse at higher rpms than the car would die, but then it would start right back up.... Pulled the valve cover and inspected the valve train, all good. Pulled the head and no good. Was too dark to get good pics but the #4 piston is rotated about 10*- 15* and still ran. Nuts!
Scored a 80K 4cyl with the auto trans still connected from a guy that did a v8 swap. He's charging me a $100 bill for everything after we talked about the Mark for awhile. Mustang people are super cool!
So it will remain a 4cyl until the truck is completed

Re: I'm a Mustang Owner now.... What?
Those 4cyl motors are almost damn near bullet proof. There was an article I remember reading about one of the magazines trying to blow one up on purpose.....they couldnt do it.

Re: I'm a Mustang Owner now.... What?
I'm pretty impressed with them as well. The fact that this one still starts up and drives amazes me.
I've found several articles and builds of people adding a turbo set up on stock internals pushing 5lbs of boost making some pretty good power.
Stinger has a forged internal set up that guys are using making 500, 600, and 700 rwhp...?
I'll probably go the small block route eventually, but still a pretty impressive little 4-banger.

Nice Nolan.
I had the venerable 2.3 in my Turbo Coupe. Loved that car. The rings are about the only weak point. Other than that... Bullet proof. That might be a cool project. Build the shit out of a 2.3 and turbo it. Don't see it every day.

I say go the SVO route. Just a cool niche in the mustang history and you dont see many of them around at all.

I'm staying stock or going the svo route if the kits in good condition. If I had a nice notch, then a GT500 Setup would be way sweet!!!
