New Mod

Post by Roadhouse on October 11th 2011, 9:29 pm

I installed a C&L cold air intake along with a Bama 91 tune last night. I was a little nervous about tuning a practically brand new car but the process was very smooth and the results have been great. Overall I feel like the car pulls noticeably harder throughout the whole RPM range, especially over 4k. Definitely woke the car up a little bit! The tune from Bama came with three settings all at the 91 octane level (really wish Tulsa had 93)- street, performance, and race. Not really sure how much these differ from one another, I imagine it's just a marketing ploy as they probably just change the throttle response for each tune. Who knows, but I'm running the performance tune right now and it's great. I'll try out the others soon.

Congrats Buck! Yes mostly its marketing and the throttle response is one that they manipulate. Mod looks good under the hood, enjoy the new found power

This is the best bang for the buck mod out there for the newer mustangs.

Thanks fellas! I loaded the race tune earlier this evening and only real difference that I can tell is the throttle response, it's a lot touchier. But the best part of the tune is the ability to disable skip shift! I've hated that feature ever since the day I got my car and it always seems to engage during the worst possible times.

It's a new feature for the 2011+ mustangs I believe. Under certain parameters, when you upshift from 1->2 somewhere between 1500 and 2500 rpm the gate to 2nd gear will lock you out and you will be forced into 4th gear. This isn't a huge deal, there are other factors at play otherthan the rpms such as starting from a dead stop and throttle percentage, but it always seemed to engage at the most inopportune times. I've read somewhere that this feature was added to increase fuel economy and avoid gas guzzler tax, not sure if it's true though. To me, skip shift kind of takes away from the fun of a manual transmission when the car decides for me what gear I need to be in.

Sounds like a case of big brother trying to take over the automotive world. Thankfully we have the ability to overwrite it with a tune.

Corvettes and other GMs have had this feature for a while. It is in fact for fuel economy.

Sometimes it would lock me out of 2nd but other times it would do like you're saying, just flash the message and everything seemed fine.

Nice. Do you plan on dragging your car at the strip? If so. I have a 5oh too and I made a thread in this forum so check it out. Let me know, it would be nice to meet up with a fellow 5oh owner and chat and drag.

I like your mod selection so far. I need a panhard bar to go with my springs, did u do the installs yourself?

I'm really interested in hearing your borla/lethal X set up and checking out your Barton bracket sometime.

I installed the shifter and intake myself but let someone else handle the exhaust and suspension.

I would highly recommend the barton shifter and bracket. The shifter feels great and when you compare the bracket to stock the difference is night and day.

Yeah I would like to hear your set up with the h-pipe and borlas. Do you have the s-type or atak axlebacks? Would be interesting to compare sound on both cars. Oh I forgot you have longtubes as well thumbsup

You mentioned in your other thread that you were throwing a code with the bama tune. Did you try and contact bama to rewrite the tune? You may like the Steeda tune better anyway just wondering if you contacted bama and what they said. No issues here with my bama tune.

Yea I have the s-type. If I hadnt gone the LT route, Lethal H/X pipe would have been my choice.

I posted this same thread on allfordmustangs in the 5.0 tech page. Bama is big in those national forums and they responded to my posts. I could not beleive how far above and beyond they went to helping me out. Two of there techs responded with an apology and some nice advice. I sent them a pm and the next thing I know they emailed me a new tune and I didn't even have to fill out an order form!!!!! Top notch service and I highly recommend them and happy I have them as my tuner.

Do you daily drive your 5oh? Where do you work? Send me a pm so we can meet up sometime. I don't dd mine but it's no garage queen either.

from what i can remember the different tunes from bama will change your power band a bit. power lower in the rpm's with the street tune vs. higher with the race tune. as you've stated the race tune also has a much more agressive throttle responce also
