Two-Way Radio
Any recommendations?
I was looking at the Motorola MR350R, Motorola MS350R, Midland GXT1050VP4, and the Midland GXT795VP4...
I know the advertised range will not be true unless I am on a mountain top talking to someone in a valley with no obstructions, but I'd like them to work in a realistic setting (i.e. have good range with obstructions). Every review I read gives a good rating about one and then on another site a bad rating, across every model I look at (including ones I didn't list). I really don't intend on getting the GMRS license as I will just use these for things like the Fall Cruise (so I'm not the dumbass not knowing what's going on. Or will I be?) and various other reasons like mountain biking, etc. I can use them with. I am not trying to break the bank. I'd like to stay under $100. The cheaper in cost the better. If it is a waterproof or water resistant model that would be a plus. I don't intend on taking them on a boat, but they may see accidental liquid spillage due to rain or my Camelbak. Using these as a baby monitor in the future could be helpful as well (no, not expecting yet, but I am practicing). I read a bad review on the MR350R for this purpose (the 3 sensitivity levels aren't sensitive enough. The Midland GXT1050 was rated better for this. It has 9 levels of sensitivity).
Thanks for your input

Thanks for the replies. Chris, the Midland 1050 was one of the ones I was looking at. Paul, I skipped over the Cobra's. The 1050's are water resistant which is a plus. I didn't see that on your model of Cobra. I didn't check others yet...
