Chevy Challenges 2013 GT500 to a race

Camaro forums lit up with Fan boys making fun of the GT500 and proclaiming the ZL1 the end all be all

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=182892

To me Ford really took Chevy by surprise with 650hp and 202mph. Chevy is playing damage control and crying out like a hurt child for attention. I am sure the ZL1 is going to be an amazing car, but seriously Chevy? Is this the playground and your the smaller bully picking on the bigger kid? Could get ugly...

Chevys response letter to their fans:

"Camaro Nation:

As you know, the blogs lit up with the announcement of the new 650-horsepower Mustang GT500, and I wanted to give you my perspective on the latest challenge from Dearborn.

The Mustang has been playing catch up since the moment the fifth-gen Camaro arrived in 2009. Since then, Camaro has been the best-selling sports car in America, indicating that consumers know which car offers the best performance, style and safety.

It is no coincidence that Mustang has introduced three 100-horsepower increases to keep pace with Camaro: First their V-6 was bumped to 305; then their V-8 went to 412, and now the GT500.

Even with the 100-hp increase, the 2013 GT500 will still not match the technology and sophistication of the 2012 Camaro ZL1.

The days of “no replacement for displacement,” are over, and it’s not enough to be fast in a straight line. With the Camaro ZL1, we set out to deliver integrated performance, and be equally good at acceleration, braking, grip, and turning. As you will soon see, that’s why the Camaro ZL1 will set the performance benchmark for the segment.

Our approach was to make every Camaro ZL1 fully track-capable, from the factory. As we announced today, the ZL1 Coupe will start at $54,995 with standard Magnetic Ride Control, standard Performance Traction Management, and standard track-capable equipment such as a rear-differential cooler, brake cooling ducts, and an engine and transmission cooler.

None of our customers will have to buy extra options – or modify their ZL1 – for track-day usage. That is not the case for the current GT500, or their new car.

For Mustang fans, you’re welcome. Clearly the Camaro has encouraged Ford to throw everything they can at us.

For Camaro fans, trust me, we are always listening to your feedback, and working hard to keep the Camaro in the lead.

Al O."

I didnt realize Ford was playing catch up HAHA

This video claims the new gt500 did 7:30 at the nurburigring. Nissan tested the 2009 GTR and it did it in 7:29. The Ford GT was tested there and did it in 7:40. The Camaro is fully track capable, meaning it can get you to and from the track. If you want to win the race, step into a GT500

As far as sales, I can understand that. But they are acting as though these changes are being made because of sales dropping.

Only reason camaro and slopar are doing better in some aspects is because there are too many soccer moms getting them. I don't even see guys driving the new "cameros" it's always cougars...

playing catch up to a car that took 4 years to produce after it was "introduced" and starred in Transformers? ya mean that one? playing catch up to a car that took a 7 year hiatus from the domestic car scene? still that hunk of crap we are talking about? Chevy must be butt-hurt over the fact that our little "catch-up" cars didnt take any government money to build...

Let's just remember which manufacturer did not have to take a break to revamp and think of a design that might apeal to teenage girls. I definitely see Camaros being driven by more women than men.

Hey, I know why their sales are up, it is because the majority of the production are automatics. The mustang community still believes in a manual shift transmission.

The articles just show that they know they are defeated. If you knew you had a better product you wouldn't have to try and down play the new GT500. You would just shut up and release the car.
