upholstery problems on s197

Post by blkpwr on January 18th 2012, 6:22 pm

Has anyone had problems with the interior of their s197s? I had read that s95s were bad about seats coming apart, but never knew ours had problems until this summer.

The seams in my drivers seat came undone and the drivers side door panel bubbled really bad, while the passenger side came off totally.

the local votech is fixing the doors for me, but can't fix the seats. Does anyone know how much that usually runs?

I'd just buy new seat covers. You might be able to find some take off items either cloth or leather. I haven't heard of any specific quality issues with the upholstery in the S197. I did experience the issue with the door panel seperating above the arm rest on Niki's 05 GT. Easy fix. The glue had broken down. Just had to re-glue it and it was good as new. Your car is a Vert correct? I'd guess that there might be some added stress to the materials being subjected to straight sunlight.

my driver's side door bubbled but my seats are fine. other than the dash rattle, my interior is good.

Thanks for replies yes it's a vert. I can't believe ford used crappy adhesive on the panels. I thought I had read that before and a specific adhesive suggestion but can't find it now.

Yep. What David said. Used it on the AC when I redid the interior.

since they are already bubbling off i give you the suggestion to upgrade the material and color of the door panels. just get a material that has a foam backing.

also why not go with some upgraded seats. some corbeau's would be a sweet addition

The shop is fixing the panels. I looked at the wide corbeaus. very nice but over 800 for a pair. I looked for used one online and they dont seem to go down much in price either

thought you might like to see this.

"FX1 pro race seats. asking 400 they do come with the brakets but the brakets should be replaced they make noise and only lock in one place. the seats themselves are in great condition no tears or rips"

I still have the black cloth seat cover off my 2006 mustang gt. I took them off to put leathers on.

Post by blkpwr on January 29th 2012, 12:01 am

I just checked those seats out, thx for the lead but they're gone already

I googled those seats though and thought they were 350 a pair new. Until I figured it was for one. Please let me know if you see any more.

I'm tempted to replace just he driver side with a corbaeu. I that ever done except by people that can't afford 2?

Thanks bob
I found this after reading your post
http://www.jegs.com/i/Scat/942/80-1615-51/10002/-1?parentProductId=1273566

one thing i like about the stock seats are the ability to raise them. the s197 doors are a little high to rest arms on (Im not short, just under 6 foot) and being able to raise the seat helps. I guess I could sit on a big phone book if I got a racing seat
