Wheel Well space

Okay help me. I have an 03 gt that i am running 245/45/17. What's the best way to close up the gap between the top of the inside of the wheel well and the tire. Bigger tires on my current wheels, or bigger tires and wheels? Keep in mind there is a budget of about a buck 4 oh nine................?

I'd lower it if I were you.

As mentioned Lowering springs will get you the look you are after. There are several kits available in the aftermarket. Eibach, FRPP, Steeda, H&R, just to name a few.

what are you thinking 1" or 11/2" And the real question is,, how hard is this to do. I am a little short on mechanical skills and I don't know if my back would allow alot of crawling around working on a car. Having a Bad Back sux.

It's a fairly simple procedure that can be accomplished in the garage or driveway with basic tools. The hardest part on the 03 like yours is getting the stock front springs out.

The drop really depends on you. How much drop you go with often dictates some of the ride quality changes you will see. Typically you will feel a slightly harsher ride after lowering. But you will also get some good things like less brake dive and better handling. If ride quality is a concern I'd suggest the Steeda ultra light springs or the Ford Racing kit. Both are very similar, both offer a similar drop distance and both have a fairly decent ride quality.

David is right on the money. There is give and take with lowering your car. You get rid of the gap, car looks more aggressive and complete, handles cornering and braking better, BUT harsher ride. You will feel more of the road (bumps, dips, etc). Depends on what you are willing to live with.

The Steeda and ford racing springs lower the car around 1'' and would be my choice. I went with the Ford Racing springs on the Shelby

Your stock shocks and struts are fine to use. You may need to get some camber bolts and have the car aligned as you will get a increase in negative camber from lowering the car.

Down the road if you would like to combat the harsh ride, you can install an adjustable strut and shock kit. Bilstein and Tokico make such a kit. You can then adjust your ride to your liking. Stiff for the track (road racing), and soften it up for a comfortable ride. I believe you can even make the ride softer than stock

Right now when going around corners at a decent speed i feel like the car has a rolling effect in the back? I know i'm used to the cornering and handleing of my passed 3000gt when in their sport mode, so I might just not be used to the difference. Does that make since?

Makes perfect sense. Lowering springs will cure most of the rolling effect. Most of the suspension can be taken care of with hand tools and elbow grease

You might measure and see if you want to go lower. I dont like sacrificing too much ride quality. That is why I went with the Ford Racing

i'm thinking 1 1/4 " would be good. I'm also thinking I want a little bit wider tire on back. What would be wider than the 245/45/17 but have the same side wall?

A 275/40/17 should work.

Thanks guys. I will be looking into getting this stuff done in the next couple of months. I might wait on the tires being that the ones that are on the car only have about 7000 miles on them. Headed to Town so talk later.
