Somewhat New Here...

Post by moot281 on February 12th 2012, 4:33 pm

Hello everyone, my name is Wes and I currently have an 03 SB Cobra. I'm from around the South Tulsa area in case anyone has seen me around.

I was invited by Grabber 07 over on SVTP a little bit ago but realized I already had an account over here. Been a good while since I've posted so i figured I would re-introduce myself!

The car is currently down at the moment. Still putting her back together after I had the motor rebuilt. Been fighting these damn power steering lines for the past couple days. Hoping to get those out of the way tomorrow sometime. Nothing outrageous as far as the build goes though. .20 over Diamonds, steel pin upgrade and a minor valve job. Throwing on a set of LTs as well. It's an 2.8 upper only car so it's just on baby boost but I will enough growing room for any future, major upgrades.

Looking forward to meeting you guys!

Nice to have you Wes! Im Shelby10' on this forum, had a Grabber orange 2007 GT in the past...just didnt change my name on SVT.

Beautiful SB Cobra! We have a few 03-04 cobras on the forum. 2 of which are also Sonic Blue.

Whats the details on the rebuild, did the motor go or are you just freshening her up for high boost?

Welcome Wes can't wait to see the car. How long have you owned the car?? Have you ever been to the track with it? If so what kind of time? Thought I saw the car there last year.

Thanks! Glad to be here.

I've seen a few around, more so at events like Mods vs Rods, MM Shelby Meet etc... Pretty sure I have a few pictures from this years Mods vs Rods I still need to post up haha

Well it was hard to tell what the culprit was. It started with a loss of boost from mid-high in the powerband around spring of last year. Would peak at 13Lbs and drop to high 10s by 6,000 RPM. The car had been on 10lbs most of it's life but I put the 2.8 on (PIA btw) and took it to Greg for it to be tuned. The tune itself seemed fine, but I couldn't figure out where I was losing boost from. So I unbolted the blower to re-check the metal gasket, which was fine. Once everything was installed I went for a few quick WOT pulls in which everything seemed OK. Pulled good, felt as if I had a few more LBs of boost according to the butt dyno. Just didn't make very much more power on Greg's dyno. Made 430/46x I believe.

Fast forward to about last summer when Kris @ K&M put a dyno day on at his shop, I threw it on to see if I had indeed found my culprit. Nope, still losing boost. I didn't have an aftermarket boost gauge so I couldn't accurately tell what boost I was seeing, so this was my best alternative. Low numbers again, bump the timing up a degree, made 44x/45x, then another degree and made 46x/48x IIRC. Still wasn't happy, so I did a compression test which gave me low numbers across the board.

Was in contact with Pat a little over a month later. And now here I am!
I had planned on going E85 with a POSI port, but trying to fund a decent build is a little tough while still working part time in college lol

Wow, got on a bit of a ramble there Ha

Thank you sir! I've owned it for a little over 2 years. Been to the track a couple times and only bested a 12.3 @ 99 (missed 4th) and then went down for the rebuild shortly after. It was still down at last years events, I just played photographer lol

@ Dien

Haha I found my first couple posts and was told there only 3 on here at that time. Must be quite a few more!

Wow looks like you are not having fun chasing Grimlins! The swain brothers should get you fixed up, great choice on the Diamond Pistons. Whats the time frame on getting it put back together?

I hear ya about school and mod money. I has a real NON head turner 97 GT in college...was completely stock and slow.... So you are ahead of the game with the Cobra! Even if she isnt going fast....still looking good! HA

I was not! Now it's just a matter of putting time into it. If I ever get these damn power steering lines sorted out, I'd say about 2 weeks tops. Just in time for snowy weather lol

That they did! Pat answered every question I threw at him, had great communication throughout the build and helped a ton when we dropped the motor back in.

Haha Those were just a PI swap away from being a pretty nice sleeper! Had an Autumn Orange car myself. Great cars for sure! But thanks bud. That Shelby in your sig is definitely sexy bigbeer

There is a Kenne Bell powered Yellow terminator always parked at the bank on 71st between 177th and 193rd. I believe a female drives it.

Welcome Wes! I am one of the other Sonic Blue Termi owners. I think you, me and Chris are the only SB terminator owners in Tulsa, at least these are the only three I have seen. I have seen your car a few times running around south tulsa, a very nice ride indeed.

Welcome aboard.

Thanks man! Same goes for yours as well! I'm pretty sure I have a few older pictures of your car from Mods vs Rods a couple years ago lol

I know there are one or two others. I saw a Steggy car with 17' Classics about a year ago, but I haven't seen it since and one other SB that an older gentlemen owns but it looked stock as can be.
