Anybody have a suggestion as how to eliminate the flow restriction caused by catalytic converters?

either high flow cat's or get off road pipes. if you want to really open the wallet just go for a full exhaust with lt's, catless pipes, your choice of mid pipe and mufflers.

your midpipe and muffler will determine the way it sounds. want the old school tone many say go with the prochamber, but i've personally never heard it. i like a little rasp, but not much.

Well, as far as sound goes, I'm looking for just a little bit more than stock, but not much. Sounds like high flow cats might give me what I want. From what I have heard, the cats are where the restriction is.

What I really need is a suspension that lets me put my horses on the road and improves cornering and handling. I'm thinking Hallett type handling without the Porche purchase....

Blair, I have the magnaflow exhaust on mine. Its pretty quiet at idle, but you get to 3,000 rpm and above and it is pretty sweet. I also like it because it does not resonate a lot in the interior. At 80 mph the supercharger is making more noise than the exhaust is. I would do a search on youtube for gt 500 exhaust. There has to be lots of clips out there. Most will tell you what they have done and will give you a good idea of what it will sound like.

that last one doesnt sound different at all. lol

i vote high catted h pipe, with flows, or O/R h pipe with flows. with the high cats and flows it will give it that deeper oldschool sound but not to loud, the off road pipe with flows will make it alot louder, but sound really good. and longtubes just make everything better. . . . Flowmaster FTW!!!

I like the first one. I would just cut the cats out and put in resonators. It was only 70 dollars for the complete install and parts to have my cats cut out and resonators put in. I have 12" resonators and love them. Of course you need a tuner to turn off the o2 sensors on the cats.

I vote for the longtubes and JBA exhaust, that one sounds very healthy.

i think i'd go for an o/r prochamber with the stock mufflers to start with. nice low rumble and if that's not loud enough then change your mufflers.

The Complete Kooks system sounds tame and mean!!

BUT honestly Blair....I would just purchase a High Flow Catted X or H pipe to replace your stock one. It should be a bit louder but keep the factory sound and tameness.

If you get carried away...it can get real loud real quick...along with drone (annoying vibrating bass of the exhaust in the cab at certain RPMS) or Pop out the exhaust tailpipes like crazy. Finding the happy medium is the key.

Start with the High Flow Midpipe...see what it sounds like...then go from there if you want more.

Think I'll meet up with you guys at the next function or a bar somewhere on a nice day and listen to several versions of what you guys have done and go from there. I'm even more interested in what you guys have done suspension wise and how it has helped.

I've heard a 3" long tube setup, and while it sounds great, it's way loud for me.

I guess both. Primarily I am looking for a power boost by removing exhaust restriction. My car already looks like a bullseye. Loud pipes will just draw more attention. I know the longtubes and less restrictive cats will help in the performance department, but makes your car sound like a Nascar track! I think that if we get some guys together and compare mods and listen to the resulta, I'll find what I'm looking for.

Well I will say a set of Resonators welded in would quite anything down! Get those long tubes and high flow cats! If its too loud...you can do what I and a few others have done and weld in some Resonators to deaden the sound.

Takes away All drone and also takes away the popping sound. Makes it all smooth as silk :)

Works for me! I went out, cleaned the car up and raced around a bit today. Great fun!

I think the long tubes with a catted H or X pipe as mentioned wouldn't be much louder than what you have now with the correct muffler choice. You would also pick up a few ponies with the addition of the LT's. Win win.

I dont think magnaflows would be that loud on your car. I put a set on my friends GT dumped and it wasnt very loud AT ALL! That was also with a MAC prochamber offroad midpipe(04 Gt). Soooo if the price is right, I would say longtubes, o/r midpipe, and some magnaflows.

Oldokie if you would like to here a GT500 with JBA longtubes, x pipe and mufflers, I have one at the shop that I am installing them on, along with a load of stuff. You are welcome to listen to it just PM me. I will have it on the Dyno some time ths weekend.

Let me know what your expectations are suspension wise and I will be glad to help you zero in on what you want. We need to get together so you can drive mine and see what razor sharp driving is. Also I can save you some dough on the install since I don't drink beer anymore it will cost you Pepsi.

Me too and David's brakes are in my trunk if he decides against them for now (I can always get more) somebody else can jump on them. I may have a 8.8 to swap out on mine and will need some lifting help. Any one else got stuff??

My expectations for suspension are to get my hp to the road, and help with times at Hallett.....

Hey Jarrod, I like the O/R h pipe on my car but the popping sound is starting to get annoying. Would resonators help with this issue? If so, where do I purchase some and where is a good place to get them welded in.

Yes the resonators would help with the popping...it would eliminate it almost completely. Also it will quite the car down as well, but wont effect your HP gains added by the off road H. I had mine welded in for $40 at Leons Muffler in Sapulpa...did a great job. I got my resonators from Summitt. Link below....price is for one resonator..you will need 2.

There are 2 options for you.

1) You can either go with 12'' Resonators which will help with the popping and and quiet the car down a little.

2) Go with the 18'' Resonators which will quiet the car down a lot and eliminate most if not all the popping (Again it will quite the car down like adding 2 more mufflers). Some want their cars loud, BUT in my opinion...you can always add long tube headers or louder rear mufflers down the road to get that sound you want.

Honestly I sometimes wish I would have gone with the 12'' because my car is now pretty quiet, BUT other times I love the fact that I went with the 18'', its quiet in the car and still pretty loud behind the vehicle.

I have never heard a mustang with the 12''....it may have been great! But o well...hind sight is 20/20

Its all about what you want out of the car...what kind of sound your looking for.

What do you think? 12 or 18?
