What size tire

Post by KevinGT on December 24th 2008, 7:43 pm

Hey Guys,

I want to buy two Nitto drag radials for better traction on the Mustang. What is the largest size I can fit back there without having them stick out. I have Nitto tires but they are the lower profile and I want the true drag radials. I am searching on the Net now but I don't know the exact lettering for the model I want. Any help? I will keep searching.

you could probably fit 305's i would imagine. ive always heard nittos run a little bit more narrow.

Jerry is running 315 nittos on the back of his terminator...but its a 17'' wheel. I think you can get away with 305s but not totally positive

Don't know if this helps, but the stock tires (rear) on my car are 285/18 and the sidewalls are pretty much flush with the fender flare.

Kevin you can do 305 Nittos. Reason is they run more narrow than alot of others out there. Some dude had 315s on his 05 but they stuck out waaayyyyy too far for my taste. I say 305s would looks sick! cheers

Need to look into a few factors before making your final choice. 1. Wheel size and offset. 2. Lowering springs. I also agree that a 305mm tire should fit under there. I think Doc has that size. He is running FR500 style wheels not sure of the BS. I know when he put the hubs on his to be able to mount his 15" bogart rear wheels for the track they rubbed the inner fender. Without the hubs they were fine.

i have the konig beyond 18x9.5 out back . either 45 or 35 +/- one is front and the other is back. (something like that). when i get back as soon as my 295/35 bfg kdw2's are dead i'll be putting on MT ET Street Radial II's on the back measuring 305/45/18. i have the eibach prokit springs on mine. i've spoken to plenty of people that use similar sized tires with the same drop and have absolutely no problems.

straight from their website. the 305/35/20 dr is good for a 10" minimum recommended rim width.

http://www.nittotire.com/#index%2Etire%2Ent555r%2Esizes

you wouldn't be the first to use them. nor will you be the last.

THE BEST WAY I HAVE FOUND IS GO TO 1010TIRE. THEY HAVE A TIRE SIZE CALCULATOR. JUST PUT IN YOUR SIZE THAT YOU HAVE KNOW AND TRY DIFFERENT COMBOS. I USE IT ALL THE TIME TO PICK TIRES AND WHEELS. HOPE THIS HELPS.

I'm getting close to needing tires... Looking at these. Since mine never sees rain, why not go full race compound?!

ha my fiancee stopped driving it because it has like 50 miles till the warranty is out. she'll just go start it every couple weeks for the next couple months to keep everything running and lubricated.

i know you're just looking after my own best interests, but i think i'll have to pass. it would also probably do it good to take it down the track also wouldn't it. shoot that could be where you blow the cob webs out if you put it on a flatbed all the way there ;)

50 miles is about 200 runs down the track. that should be enough to get it opened up and the cob webs out.
