looking for an exhaust system

Post by MustangFanatic07 on January 4th 2009, 8:33 pm

I've been doing some searching and have come to really like what Borla makes and combinations with bassani
I think i've come down to this for an axle back http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=px8RWdk5Q5s&feature=related
and this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYk1nGLSAFk

I'd like to get an x pipe but not sure what brand would be best

question, not really sure what Off Road means and what are pros and cons of X vs H pipes?

Oh and any thing out there a tad cheaper that sounds close to those 2 vids?

from my experience, x-pipe gives a little more raspy sound as h-pipe gives a more level and even rumble tone.

going with an o/r midpipe with remove your cats as stated. if you are wanting to keep your cats while still getting better performance you can upgrade to some high flow cats. the o/r will always flow better, but will also sometimes to some people be to loud.

the stingers are an excellent choice.

also as stated the x pipe will give you a more raspy/high pitched sound. if you use an o/r x pipe then it will be very loud and not sure if you will like it. that is something that many don't prefer once they actually hear it.

the H pipe will give you more of a rumble/deeper sound. the o/r or hi flow cats will sound good with stingers with either of these.

another option you can look at if you are looking for that old school deeper rumble is the mac prochamber.

here's a vid of the stingers and an o/r prochamber. i don't like that he left the car in the garage since that lets the sound go throughout the garage and you can't really tell what it actually would sound like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nx65ReYsUaE

o/r proch. w/ stock mufflers. actually sounds pretty good.

that 2nd vid, i really liked that one alot, but i'd worry it might be a bit loud for neighbors...oh well i'll just shift in low rpms.

Also i heard O/R will throw some codes from the OT sensors and i'll have to get some sort of tune to take it off?

i believe if you buy the O/R pipe from brenspeed, they will send you a free tune for the o2's.. i might be wrong though.

You will need to get a tuner and or MIL (malfunction indicator light) eliminators. If you go with an off road pipe. I do suggest the O/R pipe as you will enjoy the sound much more. Stingers with the factory H-Pipe migt sound good though.

not always.......

i have slp's and the frpp x-pipe and i purposefully rev my car at the old man across the street (before we moved). everyone knows slp's are pretty loud and the xpipe just made them louder. i used to do this all the time. going to PT in the morning and all throughout the day. the old guy was an ass so i could care less if he liked us or not. he ended up calling the cops on me. a police man walked up to my house and asked me if i was the owner when i was out washing it one day. said there were complaints that it was my car was too loud and that i was speeding down the street. i laughed and looked at the stop sign because i'm the 2nd house away from it. there's no way i can be speeding before i would have to slam on my brakes to keep from going into a major street. the cop admired the car for a min or two and said well maybe you could just coast to the sign and laughed.

not sure if you're set on stingers. i know a guy that said he'd sell his slp's for 200 brand new shipped to you. i'm always on there so i can tell him pretty easy if you're interested or you can tell him yourself

are they the SLP axle backs?
if so how close are they to sounding like stingers.

I ultimately want is Loud and deep w/o much raspyness with a bit of a burly sound
like what a new edge cobra sounds like.

Re: looking for an exhaust system

amanda,

you just described what i have almost. loudmouths are pretty darn loud. the midpipe is what will decide if you have deep or raspy. whether you have o/r or catted will make it even louder.

i have slp loudmouths with factory cats and frpp xpipe. i absolutely love it. it's a little deep, but not so much. there is really no rasp out of it unless i really just stomp the peddle though. then you get just a nice rasp out of it, but it is pretty loud out back. at the same time the inside of the car is still quiet enough to hold a conversation in with the windows open or closed. i can still talk on my phone with no issues. if you are looking for more of a deep sound i personally am looking at going to a prochamber. they give the deeper old school sound.

just go to youtube and search "slp loudmouth prochamber
